Vent my spleen!

I moved house last week.

The move itself was OK.

There was no discontinuity in phone service - there was a simple switchover.
There was no discontinuity in electricity or gas service.
There was no discontinuity in insurance cover.
and so on...

So why, why, why, why, why is it so hard to move broadband service between houses?
I have moved one street away. My BT phone line has not changed number. I am connected to the same telephone exchange. The existing phone lines do not need upgraded.

But I have to cancel my broadband account (and be charged £58 as I'm in the first 12 months of service) and reapply for a new account - which will take at least 7 days, possibly up to a month.

And PIPEX (my ISP) no longer offer the same deal I was signed up to - so I'll have to get a different offer - and none of their current deals are as good as the one I was on!!!

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I needed that.

I noticed that Pipex had radically changed their services too -- I have my Web account hosting with them -- and none of them are nearly as generous as they used to be.

I'm on the Linux Home Web server account which on the package deal I have offers me 1.5GB space, 10GB bandwidth per month, and 3 MySQL databases, and a whole lot more. These days though the Linux Home account offers only 1 MySQL database. Now in these days of more accessible and usable blogging tools, for example, such as WordPress, why -- WHY?! -- are Pipex REDUCING the number of databases per account?! It doesn't make sense.

And as for your broadband situation, Ricky, that it just ludicrous! Well worth a rant.

Hey Ricky
Thought I would drop by after you commented on my FAF post a week or so ago, sorry not to have done so earlier, you may be interested to know that www.youthblog.net has just posted a link to that very same page earlier today. The fatandfrantic.co.uk sounds like a great idea, I shall keep looking out for that one. As for the collection, I have most tapes and CD’s, but also have not come across the ‘small heads big hats’ I do also have the three videos and few T-shirts (although these are no longer wearable but must be kept despite my wife’s comments!)
